Disgrifiad cryno

This module introduces students to the methods of child study, child-care practices and developmental psychology and relates these to a practical context of working with young children. Students will consider the main principles of children’s development and also consider additional learning needs. They will consider the impact of the environment on children’s development and learning, as well as reflecting on the importance of monitoring, reviewing and evaluating children’s development and their own practices. As part of the module, students will have the opportunity to undertake 50 hours of placement in an early years setting.

Key Principles and Concepts
Pre-natal and brain development
Cognitive Theories
Theory of Mind
Additional learning needs
The impact of the environment on children’s learning
Social Learning theories and Leadership in Education
Meeting the needs of all children – ACE’S
Monitoring, reviewing and evaluating development and practices
Weeks 9 and 10 – students will undertake placements (50 hours in total). Throughout the seminar sessions, students will be supported in finding and organising placements
