On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Critically review and concisely present research ideas within a short presentation format.
2. Comprehensively understand how to develop, from an extensive range of research sources, a workable film project idea for production.
3. Critically evaluate conceptual contributions to a scripted idea during script development; paying close attention to specific role contributions.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the specific elements of the film project in the production process and work within a predefined financial budget.
5. Work professionally in a specific production (Cinematography, Sound, Writing, Editing, Directing, producing role) adhering to a pre-prepared schedule plan.
6. Demonstrate mastery of technical skills within a chosen specialized area of production.
This is the first of three practical production modules. Students will work on their production skills and produce 1 x 10 minute short film. Students will apply their knowledge in their chosen area (Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Sound Recording and editing). Students will form production teams to produce and shoot the film and by the end of the semester all students will have contributed to a 10 minute short film. The first part of the module will be seminar lead with production teams working to develop their script and working on the pre-production of their project. The second half of the module will be dedicated to shooting and post producting the 10 minute film.

Weeks 6-10 – Shooting and editing the film. The students will be expected to shoot, post produce and deliver their films during this period. Each team will also be expected to attend a weekly session of 2 hours to discuss their shoot.

Week 8: 2 hour seminar – Post production
Week 9: 2 hour seminar - Delivery
Week 10: Completion of the film and delivery. The design, delivery and realization of a 10 minute film by groups of students will be the main focus of learning in this module and whilst there will be emphasis on the thematic areas listed above.
