On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of subject content.
2. Communicate their subject/s content to different audiences.
3. Self-reflect on their learning experiences.
This module follows on from the core module “Learning Experiences 1”, giving Foundation Year students the opportunity to attend subject-specific content in their chosen subject area (Subject A) and one other (Subject B/C). The module will develop and enhance key skillsets as indicated in the Learning Outcomes and Assessment.
Subject A: Their named course (e.g. Geography with Foundation, Psychology with Foundation etc.)
Subject B: An appropriate subject from one other department that provides foundation year schemes.
Students will attend bespoke Foundation Year workshops to help them identify appropriate Level 1 content in Subject A and Subject B, and help students reflect on their learning experiences throughout the course. These will take place in registration week, and teaching weeks 5, 6, culminating in individual poster presentations in weeks 11 and 12 of Semester 1.
Students will attend Level 1 content in teaching weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 (lectures and associated seminars/workshops).
Students will attend Level 1 content in teaching weeks 7, 8, 9 and 10 from Subject B (lectures and associated seminars/workshops)
Students will be provided with a list of academic activities to carry out each week as part of the process for developing a learning journal.
Students will also attend workshops on writing a newspaper piece and undertake seen exam preparation to provide them with the information and tools they need for their assessments on this module. In addition to preparing a structure for the seen exam, students will complete a formative exam and peer-mark the results.
