Canlyniadau Dysgu

Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to obtain knowledge independently, using library, computing network and internet resources;
  2. Demonstrate the ability to initiate investigations, formulate appropriate problems and solve them;
  3. Demonstrate the ability to present a detailed typeset report on the work carried out.

Disgrifiad cryno

This module is intended to help a final year M Math student pursue mathematical or statistical investigations working as independently as possible of direct instruction, and to report coherently on his/her investigations. The particular topic will be chosen in consultation with a supervisor whom the student will see for at most one hour per week. The main purpose of these tutorials is to ensure that progress on the project has not been impeded by difficulties or misunderstandings and to make such suggestions as seem appropriate.

Nod

To give the student experience of independent study of a topic in Mathematics or Statistics.

Cynnwys

The topic and detailed resource material will be arranged in consultation with the supervisor.

The module will include timetabled training sessions on (i) LaTeX typesetting, (ii) writing a mathematical report, and (iii) making good use of library resources. Students will submit their preliminary findings in an interim report early in the semester and will be given an opportunity to present a short seminar on their project at the end of the semester (both for formative assessment).
