On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an ability to participate effectively in a structured production environment.
2. Demonstrate an ability to contribute productively to the creation of a collaboratively conceived performance work by identifying and implementing appropriate methodologies of making and compositional skills.
3. Demonstrate an ability to analyze the collaborative and compositional working processes involved in performance making and situate these within a wider understanding of contemporary performance and scenography.
4. Demonstrate an ability to examine critically collaborative and compositional working processes involved in performance and reflect critically upon their own contribution to the process by employing appropriate modes of evaluative writing.
The module introduces students to professional practices and procedures of production: approaches to conception, devising, composition and exposition in the public domain.
The module is delivered through an intensive 6-week making and rehearsal period
The rehearsal period involves 20 hours of rehearsals/project development per week for a period of 5 weeks, followed by an intensive week of 30 hours of rehearsals/project completion. This period culminates in the public performance of the work at the end of Week 6.
Please note that the module can also be delivered in 4 intensive weeks (with 35 hours of rehearsals each week) if an external production facilitator is employed.
The module introduces students to professional practices and procedures of production: approaches to concept, devising, composition and exposition in the public domain. Following the production, students are required to apply reflexive evaluation and articulation of the conception, devising, composition and exposition of the work and their own personal contribution to it in the form of a critical commentary.
Individual contributions to the process will be continuously monitored by the production's facilitator (and in 10 sessions of observation of 1 hour by an additional member of staff if the production's facilitator is not a member of staff.)

Assessment task 1 provides students with an awareness of and skills in the creation and staging of performance work, which are regarded as being valuable preparation for their move into professional practice.|
|Problem solving||Analytical problem solving, outcome recognition and the identification of appropriate strategies and procedures are encouraged and assessed through both assessments.|
|Research skills||Appropriate personal and collaborative research and the development of effective personal and collaborative research practices are encouraged and assessed through both assessments.|
|Subject Specific Skills||See QAA Dance, Drama and Performance Subject Benchmark Statement (Version 2015). The following subject specific skills are developed and partly assessed: Engaging in performance and production, based on acquisition and understanding of appropriate performance and production vocabularies, skills, structures, working methods and research paradigms. Developing a repertoire of interpretative skills, practices and making techniques (physical/aural/spatial) and applying them effectively to engage with an audience/performance. Contributing to the production of performance, for example through direction, choreography, dramaturgy, stage management, scenography, sound and lighting production, media, promotion, administration and funding. Realising the performance possibilities of a script, score and other textual and documentary sources and/or creating new work using the skills and crafts of performance making/writing. |Team work||The application of skills necessary to conduct collaborative activity, such as negotiating ideas and opinions, are developed throughout the module and directly assessed through Assessment 1.|
