Spanish Language (Intermediate)

Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:

1. Recognise and understand different linguistic registers. Differentiate between major stylistic levels of Spanish.
2. Communicate with confidence on a variety of subjects related to their field(s) of interest, synthesising and evaluating information and arguments from a number of sources, conveying detailed information and arguments reliably.
3. Translate selected passages into and out of Spanish, showing idiomatic, authentic style and grammatical usage, though with some awkwardness.
4. Present independently prepared material in spoken or written Spanish. Interpret, describe and present reliably detailed information.
5. Discuss and debate topical issues in Spanish, contributing, accounting for and sustaining their opinion, evaluating alternative proposals and making and responding to hypotheses.
6. Summarise selected pieces of written or spoken Spanish, relaying the main points and synthesizing opinions, arguments and discussions.
7. Express multifaceted insights into contemporary Hispanic life and culture.
8. Initiate conversation in Spanish with confidence and participate in sustained and reasonably complex social exchanges. Participate actively in formal and informal discussions, accounting for and sustaining their opinions and providing relevant explanations, arguments and comments.
9. Demonstrate proficiency in Spanish grammar and syntax, appropriate to level B1+/B2 of the CEFR.

An intermediate level course in Spanish language and culture. It will cover material from level B1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Successful students will achieve Common Reference Level B1+/B2 (Independent User) by the end of the module.

The aim of this module is to consolidate students' knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, enabling them to become independent users of the language. At the end of this module successful students will be prepared for advanced-level Spanish language courses and to successfully complete the Year Abroad.

Students will cover material appropriate to levels B1 / B2 of the CEFR. This will include developing translation, writing, oral and listening skills.
Material covered will help students increase and refine their knowledge and understanding of the target language and culture. Class content will familiarise students with contemporary issues, tendencies and debates in their language of study. Students will work towards being able to synthesize their knowledge of relevant social and cultural themes while developing their analytical skills and advancing their spoken and written expression across a variety of registers. Students will also have the opportunity to practice and progress essential language skills that will help prepare them for the Year Abroad.
