Mae Gareth wedi dysgu yn yr Adran Astudiaethau, Theatr, Ffilm a Theledu ers mis Medi 2007, gan ddod yn aelod llawn-amser yn 2012. Yn yr un flwyddyn cwblhaodd ei ddoethuriaeth a oedd yn canolbwyntio ar gysyniad Hans-Thies Lehmann (1999, cyf. 2006) o'r theatr ôl-ddramataidd, a'i berthynas â datblygiad y theatr yn y Gymraeg, gan ganolbwyntio'n benodol ar waith cwmni Brith Gof a'u cydweithwyr, yn ogystal â thestunau perfformio'r llenor Aled Jones Williams.
Yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf, bu'n cynnal ei ymarfer perfformio fel aelod o'r grŵp random people.
Ar hyn o bryd, mae'n cwblhau monograff ar waith Aled Jones Williams, i'w gyhoeddi gan Wasg Prifysgol Cymru.
Ers 2018, mae wedi bod yn adolygydd theatr ar gyfer The Guardian.
