In accordance with Aberystwyth University’s Supplementary Royal Charter, the Council is “the supreme governing body of the University” and is responsible for “determining the University’s strategic direction and for the conduct of the University’s financial, administrative and other affairs, in accordance with its objects”. It has the custody and regulates the use of the University’s common seal, and the Council’s constitution, powers and functions are provided by Ordinance.
