Overview

This course explores the relationship between creative writing and personal wellbeing. Through journaling, reflective writing, storytelling, poetry, and nature writing, learners will discover how writing can support self-awareness, mindfulness, emotional expression, and personal growth. The course introduces a range of practical techniques that encourage reflection and exploration, helping learners develop a sustainable writing practice while gaining a deeper understanding of their own experiences and narratives. Topics include expressive writing, narrative identity, resilience, and meaning-making, providing opportunities to use writing as a tool for wellbeing and self discovery. Suitable for beginners and experienced writers alike, this course offers a supportive and reflective approach to creative writing, with no prior writing experience required.

During the course, learners will explore:

Unit 1: Introduction to Writing for Wellness.

 Unit 2: Journaling and Self-Reflection.

Unit 3: Narrative Identity.

Unit 4: Poetry and Emotional Expression.

Unit 5: Nature Writing and Mindfulness.

Unit 6: Writing Through Change and Challenge.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of key theories and concepts relating to writing and wellbeing.
  2. Produce a portfolio of original creative and reflective writing.
  3. Critically evaluate the impact of writing practices on personal wellbeing and creative development.
  4. Reflect upon and articulate their development as writers through informed critical reflection.

Assessments

  1. Portfolio (2000 words) of writing that reflects the content and details covered during the course. (100%)

This course is for everyone. No previous experience is needed and there are no formal entry requirements.

As this is an online course, you would need the following:
