Overview

Have you ever wanted to learn how to work with wool and understand the different types of wool needed for different projects?

This beginners-level course will introduce you to the traditional crafts of knitting, felting and crochet as well as giving you the background and history of the wool industry in Wales. All projects will start with a demonstration and time will be built into the delivery for you to work on and synthesise your knowledge in the projects that you wish to explore further. Start collecting wool and crochet needles - you are in a for a fun time.

Programme

During the course, learners will be given demonstrations in different crafts using wool, and then provided with an opportunity to practice and create their own pieces of work under the guidance of an experienced tutor in this field.

The course will include:-

  • The history of the wool industry in Wales
  • Needle felting demonstration and guidance
  • Knitting demonstration and guidance
  • Crochet demonstration and guidance
  • A visit to the National Library of Wales

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students should be able to:  

  1. Show an understanding of types and grades of wool
  2. Create a garment from recycled wool
  3. Show an understanding of traditional skills and the heritage of wool in Wales
  4. Create a piece of craft showing a synthesis on new skills
