Overview
Sourced from the Landscape is specifically designed for students who have undertaken Abstracting the Landscape and Towards Abstraction. Pre-course work will be given to all enrolled in preparation for the course so that students can maximise the teaching and learning. The rural and garden settings of the chosen venues will provide a valuable resource for students. Students will work towards building a series of images using a single thread approach. This will start with line drawing in wire, transferring lines using monoprint, extending the line by draping it with colour, developing texture and tone before finally creating paintings which demonstrate individual responses to experience through process.
Programme
The landscape theme will utilize a range of processes enabling students to investigate what they see and feel in context and apply working strategies which initially deconstruct, then reconstruct a pictorial space which controls the arrangements of formal elements and perspective.
The course will be delivered over 4 days in 8 units with further opportunity to study to complete final pieces and update research within one calendar month.
Session 1: Drawing in Space: working with wire on location to produce a three dimensional collage.
Session 2: Mono-printing workshop: developing work with line in space.
Session 3 and 4: 5 hours tutor contact. Seminar based around case study. Working on high-relief structures: Colour fields.
Session 5:. Three dimensional constructions in preparation for final pieces.
Session 6, 7 and 8: Working on final pieces with peer group discussion and seminar.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Investigate the work of others through research from the case study and then relate this to the mini project
- Record ideas, document working processes and findings from workshops in the form of developmental portfolio.
- To produce a final piece from the processes of working from direct observation and experience in the landscape.
