Heating:
We will seek to maintain comfortable heating temperatures between 7am and 11pm. The radiators will come on when the temperature sensors indicate a demand for heating. During the night period -11pm to 7am - the heating will be set back to lower temperatures.
You must ensure the radiators are turned on at the valve or they will not come on.
You can regulate the temperature in your bedroom by adjusting the TRV ( Thermostatic Radiator Valve) situated at the side of your radiator (see picture below).

Hot water is provided 24/7.
Heating controls (optimum start):
For the first period of the morning, university residences have an early start system called ‘optimum start’. A controller calculates times in which the heating needs to come on in order to pre-heat building to normal temperatures. The calculations are based on external temperatures. Therefore, on cold days, the heating may come on earlier.
Heating controls (variable hot water temperatures):
The external temperatures control the temperature of water flowing into the radiators – if it’s cold outside, the radiator will be running at a hotter temperature. This is because, a building's heat loss varies with the outside temperature. As a result, radiators may sometimes only feel lukewarm or cold.
